Question:61 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of people attending agricultural courses in each of the years from 1982 to 1992; and the number of people currently undertaking such courses.

The numbers of people attending agricultural courses operated by Teagasc were as follows:— 1981-82, 5,658; 1982-83, 5,736; 1983-84, 6,218; 1984-85, 8,515; 1985-86, 8,241; 1986-87, 16,394; 1987-88, 9,754; 1988-89, 17,040; 1989-90, 14,917; 1990-91 10,356; 1991-92, 7,338.
The figure for the current year, i.e. 1992-93 is 12,358.
