Vol. 427 No. 4

Written Answers. - North-South Co-operation.

Austin Currie

Question:

66 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the plans, if any, he has to meet his Northern Ireland counterpart in the near future to discuss the restoration of the North-South electricity interconnector and other issues of North-South co-operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While I have no immediate plans to meet with my Northern Ireland counterpart he is fully aware of my wish to see the interconnector in operation as soon as possible.

Matters of mutual concern relevant to Departmental (Northern and Southern) Responsibilities are discussed during regular liaison meetings at senior official level. The restoration of the North-South Interconnector is primarily a matter of security. I can assure the Deputy that the matter is reviewed periodically as both sides want to see the link restored at the earliest opportunity.
