Vol. 427 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Extension and Refurbishment.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

68 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Health if work will commence in 1993 on the extension and refurbishment of the hospital at Edenderry, County Offaly; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of a new 40 bed Nursing Unit for the elderly at Edenderry District Hospital continues to be regarded by the Midland Health Board as a vital element of its community care programme. Approval to go to tender will be conveyed as soon as I am satisfied that the necessary funding, which is in excess of £1 million, is available. The Deputy will appreciate that I must take into account competing demands for capital funding from other health board areas and the capital priorities of the Midland Health Board.
