Vol. 427 No. 8

Written Answers. - Electricity Production Costs.

Enda Kenny

Question:

195 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the cost per unit of electricity produced in respect of each of the power stations by category in the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to the ESB's most recent annual report 1991 in which the information sought is published.

The cost per unit listed reflects the primary energy source utilised and the differing efficiencies of generation plant.

The policy of my Department is to encourage the use of an economic mix of varied fuels to achieve the generation of a secure competitively priced electricity supply.
