Question:

98 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction a second level school at Glanmire, County Cork, in view of submissions made to the Taoiseach and to the Tánaiste.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 33 and 98 together.

The question of the provision of a new second level school in the Riverstown-Glanmire area of County Cork has been the subject of detailed and continuous review in my Department in recent years. The most recent review revealed that the provision of a new second level school in the area is not warranted at present. However, my Department will continue to monitor the situation in the light of the most up to date statistics available on demographic trends, housing developments and primary school enrolments.
Following on submissions made to the Taoiseach and to the Tánaiste during the election campaign I recently met a deputation from the Glanmire-Riverstown second level school action committee.
