Vol. 427 No. 8

Written Answers. - Deeds of Trust.

Phil Hogan

Question:

72 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education the reason no deeds of trust have been signed in relation to comprehensive schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

There are 16 comprehensive schools in operation. There is no model Deed of Trust, acceptable to all the parties involved in the trusteeship and management of comprehensive schools, such as the agreed model deed of trust which was drawn up for community schools. Individual legal agreements were, however, drawn up in the case of four comprehensive schools. The future management structures of these schools will be among the issues to be considered in the context of the discussions leading to the White Paper on Education.
