Vol. 427 No. 8

Written Answers. - Immigration Funding.

Enda Kenny

Question:

122 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the total amount allocated by his Department for each of the years from 1988 to 1992 for the funding of voluntary groups, in both the USA and in the UK, who provide information centres for Irish people who have emigrated; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Funding for immigration assistance groups in the United States has been made available from the Vote for Foreign Affairs since 1990. The total amount allocated in each year since then was as follows:

£

1990

200,000

1991

200,000

1992

50,000

The reduction in the allocation in 1992 was made, reluctantly, in the face of the current very difficult budgetary climate.
Funds for voluntary groups in Britain are the responsibility of the Minister for Enterprise and Employment.
