Written Answers. - Air Corps Aircraft.

Question:

273 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the total number of aircraft in the Air Corps; the year and type of aircraft; and the proposals, if any, he has to renew or purchase new aircraft.

The Air Corps operates a total of 39 aircraft comprising helicopter and fixed wing aircraft. The following table sets out the type and year of manufacture of the aircraft.

In accordance with an EC approved programme a contract which was placed in April 1991 included provision for the purchase of two new CASA CN235 maritime patrol aircraft for the purpose of aerial surveillance of fisheries resources. The new aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 1994.
