Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

312 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a beef subsidy will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Laois.

The person named applied for premium on 32 animals under the 1992 special beef premium scheme in the June-July application period. At inspection on 15 October 1992 he presented 26 of the 32 animals for inspection. He stated that three animals had died and one had to be slaughtered. He was unable to account for the absence of the other two animals. Under EC Regulations no premium can be paid to him on foot of his June 1992 application. His December 1992 application for grants under the special beef premium scheme will be processed in due course.

Question:

313 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason for the refusal of payment of a sheep subsidy to a person (details supplied) in County Laois; and if, having regard to the circumstances of the case, he will review the matter.

Under the 1992 ewe premium scheme applicants were required (a) to keep on their holdings for 100 days from 7 March to 14 June 1992 the number of sheep on which they applied for premium and (b) to notify the local office of my Department in writing and in advance of any changes during the 100 day retention period in the particulars of their holdings as declared on the application form. As the person named did not meet these requirements I regret that payment of the premium had to be refused in accordance with EC Regulations governing the scheme.
