Question:

409 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if, in relation to the areas for which his Department has responsibility, he will give details of the number of EC Directives, by number and title, which have been implemented in Ireland by way of statutory instruments since Ireland became a member state; and if, in relation to each directive implemented, he will give details of the variation/amendment/ differences there are in each statutory instrument compared to the original directive; and the number of directives, by number and title, which have not been implemented by way of statutory instruments.

No Directives relating to areas of activity for which my Department has responsibility have been implemented to date by means of statutory instruments since Ireland acceded to the European Community.

The following Directives have been implemented other than by means of statutory instrument, viz.,

Council Directive of 10 February, 1975 on the approximation of the laws of the member states relating to the application of the principle of equal pay for men and women (75/117/EEC).

Anti-Discrimination (Pay) Act, 1974 as amended by the Employment Equality Act, 1977.

Council Directive of 9 February, 1976 on the implementation of the principle of equal treatment for men and women as regards access to employment, vocational training and promotion and working conditions (76/207/EEC)

Employment Equality Act, 1977.

Certain amendments to the Employment Equality Act, 1977, have been made pursuant to section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972. These are European Communities (Employment Equality) Regulations, 1982 (SI No. 302 of 1982) and European Communities (Employment Equality) Regulations, 1985 (SI. No. 331 of 1985).
