Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authorities' Cultural Development Plan.

John Bruton

Question:

414 Mr. J. Bruton and Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he proposes to introduce legislation to require local authorities to produce a cultural development plan; if so, when this requirement will come into effect; and the purpose of it.

Under the Programme for a Partnership Government 1993-1997 local authorities will be required to produce a cultural development plan, to guide planned priorities for arts funding for a number of years.

This matter is being pursued by my Department at present and consideration will be given to all aspects, including the introduction of legislation if necessary, to ensure that local authorities produce a cultural development plan at the earliest possible opportunity.
