Question:

418 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if, in relation to the areas for which his Department has responsibility, he will give details of the number of EC Directives, by number and title, which have been implemented in Ireland by way of statutory instruments since Ireland became a member state; and if, in relation to each directive implemented, he will give details of the variation/amendment/differences there are in each statutory instrument compared to the original directive; and the number of directives, by number and title, which have not been implemented by way of statutory instruments.

Implementation

(1) Council Directive 89/552/EC of 3 October 1989 on the co-ordination of certain provisions laid down by law, regulation or administrative action in member states concerning pursuit of television broadcasting activities.

(1) Certain provisions thereof relating to this Department's responsibilities implemented by S.I. number 251 of 1991 and Sections 4 and 8 of the Broadcasting Act, 1990. Administrative action to be taken shortly to finalise implementation of the Directive's provisions on television advertising.

(2) Commission Directive 70/50/EEC on the abolition of measures which have an effect equivalent to quantitative restrictions on imports and are not covered by other provisions adopted in pursuance of the EEC Treaty.

(2) Implemented in so far as it related to provisions of the Broadcasting Authority Act, 1960, by S.I. number 187 of 1983.
