Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dunboyne (County Meath) School.

Mary Wallace

Question:

473 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education when she will respond to the correspondence of June 1992 from a person (details supplied) regarding the provision of a diocesan secondary school for Dunboyne, County Meath; if her attention has been drawn to the correspondence received in her Department in July 1992 from the five TDs from County Meath supporting the proposal and to the fact that the second level school committee in Dunboyne and the parish of Dunboyne are anxious to see the proposal being approved notwithstanding the knowledge that the community will be undertaking a much larger financial undertaking due to the 10 per cent local contributions including the provision of the site and other costs; and if she will make a statement regarding this proposal which has the full support of the people and their representatives.

The position is that a site has been identified and is currently under consideration as a possible site for the proposed new post-primary school for Dunboyne, County Meath. When this stage is completed the management structure for the school will be considered in the context of the White Paper on Education to be published by the end of the year. The correspondent is aware of the Department's position in the matter.

I am aware of the strong interest of all Deputies in the constituency regarding the school.
