Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Appointments.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

61 Mr. O'Malley asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the numbers and grades of staff which it is intended to appoint to the proposed Office of the Tanaiste; and when it is intended to appoint such staff.

An Assistant Secretary has recently been appointed with responsibility for the running of the office of the Tánaiste, following an inter-departmental competition held under the auspices of the Top Level Appointments Committee (TLAC).

A Programme Manager and Policy Adviser have also been appointed to the Office.

An immediate assignment for the Assistant Secretary will be to establish and recruit the staffing structure for the Office. She will be considering the numbers and grades of staff required in the context of the role and functions of the Office and within the budget provided for the Office in the 1993 Estimates.
It is envisaged that many of the staff of the Office will be recruited from staff who are surplus to requirements in the Office of the Revenue Commissioners.
