Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Carysfort College (Dublin) Purchase.

Jim Higgins

Question:

498 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education the total cost to the Exchequer, including fees, for the purchase of Carysfort College, Blackrock, County Dublin by UCD; and the cost of equipping and refurbishing the college.

The total Exchequer grant to UCD to assist in the purchase and bringing into operation of Carysfort College, including fees, was £9.7 million. Any additional costs for equipping and refurbishing were a matter for the UCD authorities to provide from non-Exchequer sources.

The Exchequer grant was partially offset by £1.75 million which was refunded by the Mercy Order in July 1990 on foot of previous capital investment by the State in the college.
