Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Juvenile Justice Bill.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

174 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the fact that the Juvenile Justice Bill will not be ready for this session of Dáil Éireann, she will introduce some provisions of the Bill on an emergency basis in view of the serious problem of juvenile crime.

The proposed Juvenile Justice Bill will deal with all aspects of the juvenile justice system. It will replace the Children Act, 1908, with a modern comprehensive statute.

While it is my intention to have the legislation introduced as soon as possible it would not be practicable to bring forward for consideration selected provisions in advance of the proposed Bill.
