Vol. 428 No. 3

Written Answers. - Offaly House Sale.

Noel Ahern

Question:

46 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works will sell a house (details supplied) in County Offaly which has been occupied by a family for years; if there is a standard sales scheme; if so, if the price is based on length of tenancy and the way in which the purchase is processed.

The house in question is situated adjacent to the lock chamber at Victoria Lock. It has been occupied originally by the lock-keeper and then by his late widow. Because of the strategic location of the house the Commissioners of Public Works are not prepared to dispose of the property outright. The possibility of leasing the house to the person in question is under consideration by the Commissioners.

Surplus State property is usually sold either on the open market by public tender or to sitting tenants. In the latter case the terms of occupancy of the premises are taken into account. All sales are processed in the usual manner in conjunction with the Chief State Solicitor's Office.
