Vol. 428 No. 5

Written Answers. - Caretaker Vacancies.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

242 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education when she will fill vacancies for caretaking posts at Stranorlar and Donegal town vocational schools, and sanction new caretaker posts for Arranmore Island and Ballinmore vocational schools, County Donegal.

Maintenance staff, including caretakers, are allocated to Vocational Education Committees on a scheme basis and it is a matter for each vocational education committee to deploy such staff as it deems appropriate to its requirements.

It is understood that County Donegal vocational education committee has caretaking services at all of the schools in its scheme, although not at the level requested by the vocational education committee in all cases.

However, the question of further caretaker staffing for County Donegal vocational education committee will be given consideration in the context of the expansion of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress scheme for caretaker and secretarial services in second-level schools for September, 1993.
