Vol. 428 No. 5

Written Answers. - Juvenile Justice Bill.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

28 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Justice if she will make a statement on the present stage of preparation of the proposed Juvenile Justice Bill; and when she intends to publish this Bill.

Substantial progress has been made on the preparation of the Juvenile Justice Bill which will replace the Children Act, 1908 with a comprehensive modern statute. In accordance with the commitment in the Programme for Government it is my intention to have the appropriate legislation introduced as soon as possible but it would not be practicable for me at present to give a precise date as to when the Bill will be circulated.
