Written Answers. - Tax Treatment of Married Women.

Pat Upton

Question:

67 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Finance if he will change the situation whereby the Revenue Commissioners refuse to treat women as the main earners where husband and wife are jointly assessed for taxation purposes.

The tax treatment of married women is being examined by my Department and the Revenue Commissioners. This review will take into account the views of the Commission on the Status of Women in the matter.
