Vol. 428 No. 6

Written Answers. - Implementation of Culliton Report.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

43 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will give details of the present position in regard to the implementation of the Culliton report, particularly as it affects agencies; the present position in relation to the proposed legislation, and in particular, when it will be introduced; and the reason for the delay in view of the fact that the heads of the Bill to implement the report were circulated to Departments in October.

The Moriarty Task Force submitted its final report on 13 January last and it is my intention to publish shortly both the text and the Government decisions on the recommendations for implementing the Culliton report therein.

The material being published will set out clearly those recommendations of Culliton which have been accepted, and what has been done and what will be done.

In relation to agency restructuring in particular, the Programme for a Partnership Government set out the institutional configuration to which the Government is committed and it is my intention that legislation will be in place by the summer recess.

In relation to the suggestion of delays in the legislation I can assure the Deputy that the Government is giving the matter priority attention.
