Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Shared Ownership Scheme.

Tony Gregory

Question:

131 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the special circumstances of families contemplating rural resettlement schemes who wish to avail of the shared ownership scheme, he has plans to provide them with 100 per cent of their share of the cost of the house.

Under the terms of the shared ownership system, the applicant's initial share of the cost of the dwelling is met by the payment of a minimum deposit of £1,000, the new house grant for first time owner — occupiers, if applicable, and the applicant's mortgage, all of which taken together must account for at least 50 per cent of the equity in the dwelling. There are no proposals to change these arrangements.
