Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Landfill Management.

Noel Ahern

Question:

144 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the regulations, if any, that exist on the size of a tip head in relation to height above existing ground level.

Wexford): There are no regulatory requirements relating to this particular aspect of landfill management.

There are standing guidelines from my Department to local authorities on management and operational aspects of landfill sites generally. In future the Environmental Protection Agency will be required to specify and publish criteria for the selection, management, operation and termination of use of such sites, and to direct and supervise relevant monitoring by local authorities.
