Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Commercial Ports Reorganisation.

Seán Barrett

Question:

156 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for the Marine if he intends replacing the interim Dún Laoghaire Harbour Board with a statutory authority; if so, when he expects this new authority to be put in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Legislation is at present being drafted to bring about a major reorganisation of commercial ports. The new Ports and Harbours Bill, which will be designed to facilitate commercialisation, will set up commercial State companies to manage a number of ports including Dún Laoghaire, as recommended by the commercial harbours review group. I hope to be in a position to have the Bill published at the earliest opportunity.
