Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Alternative Enterprise Scheme.

Peter Barry

Question:

175 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of enterprises which are operating under the alternative enterprise scheme; if he will make more money available under this heading; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have set out on the table below the breakdown of approved projects and grants paid to date under the alternative enterprise scheme of the Operational Programme for Rural Development.

Due to the exceptionally high demand for funds under the scheme, the original allocation of £4.1 million was increased to £5.95 million in September 1992. All of the funds have now been fully committed. To date about £3 million has been paid in grant aid.

I have included a proposal for a new alternative enterprise scheme in my Department's submission to the Government for the next round of Structural Funds.
