Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Interim Horse Board.

Avril Doyle

Question:

178 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the views, if any, he has on the proposals of the Interim Horse Board; if he will give details of the proposed funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I fully support the overall thrust of the development plan submitted to me by the Interim Horse Board.

A grant of £75,000 was provided to the board in 1992 and a similar amount is being provided this year. An official from my Department has been assigned full time to act as secretary to the board. The costs of providing the horse register services continue to be carried in my Department. The longer term financial arrangements for the board's activities are under consideration at present in consultation with the board.
