Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Exemption from Hospital Charges.

Michael Creed

Question:

233 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health if, in view of the fact that maternity cases are exempt from payment of hospital in-patient charges, he will clarify the position with regard to such cases and to charges for ambulance hire which arise out of pregnancy complications.

Women receiving services in respect of motherhood are exempt from the statutory in-patient hospital maintenance charges. However, they are not exempt from any charge which might arise in respect of private or semi-private accommodation.

There is no specific exemption in respect of ambulance charge and any charge for this service is a matter for the relevant health board to decide.
