Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Grants.

John Bruton

Question:

248 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if any additional schools are likely to qualify for grants towards building over and above those listed in her reply to parliamentary question No. 164 of 10 March 1993.

As indicated in the reply to Question No. 164 of 10 March 1993, the capital allocation for primary and post-primary schools covers equipment and resource grants, small capital projects and emergency repairs, the provision of temporary accommodation to meet increased enrolments, site/property acquisitions and major building projects. Each year a very substantial number of schools benefit from the capital allocation to one degree or another.

The funding for major first and second-level building projects has been fully committed for 1993. Approved projects not included in the lists in the reply in question will be considered for inclusion in the capital programme in due course having regard to commitments and priorities and the availability of resources.
