Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Firearms Acts Breaches.

Michael Ferris

Question:

109 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Justice the number of convictions, if any, of out of State shooters for breaches of wildlife and firearms Acts for the past ten years; and the security checks, if any, which are carried out on these out of State shooters when entering into this jurisdiction; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Information in relation to convictions for breaches of the Wildlife and Firearms Acts by visiting shooters is not readily available and could be obtained only by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff time and effort.

It would not be appropriate for me to give details to the House of security checks and operations. However, all persons entering the State must have the prior approval of the Minister for Justice for the possession of firearms.
