Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Cork Illegal Encampment.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

115 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice the action, if any, she proposes to take regarding an illegal travellers encampment in a town (details supplied) in County Cork.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are six caravans parked at the location in question and that they are not causing an obstruction under the Road Traffic Acts. However, I am informed that a recent prosecution under the Casual Trading Act was taken by the gardaí against one of the persons parked at the location and that further similar prosecutions will follow.

I am assured by the Garda authorities that they are closely monitoring the situation and will deal with any breaches of the law as they are detected.
