Written Answers. - Summer Schools.

Ivor Callely

Question:

141 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the assistance, if any, which is available from her Department or the European Commission to students who wish to pursue studies in summer schools while on vacation from their normal studies; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Under the terms of Cultural Agreements between Ireland and various other countries summer school scholarships are awarded by countries to Irish students as follows: Belgium, 2; France, 4; Holland, 1; Germany, 2; Italy, 10; Spain, 10.

The courses are usually of one months duration. Applications are invited by the Department of Education through public advertisement. Scholarship holders get a fixed amount from the host country towards the cost of registration fees and accommodation. The Department reciprocates by taking students from above countries for summer courses in this country.
