Vol. 429 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Zoo.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

18 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the examinations in relation to the welfare of animals in the zoo which have been undertaken in recent times; and if there have been any changes in the manner and frequency of monitoring as a result of the Doyle report on the future of Dublin Zoo.

My Department provides assistance to Dublin Zoo in respect of welfare of animals, disease control and post mortem examinations. This has traditionally been the case and there has been no necessity to change these arrangements. I shall be happy to continue with the provision of veterinary expertise and advice as the need arises. It should also be noted that my Department's Veterinary Research Laboratory examines samples in respect of Zoo animals on a regular basis.
