Vol. 429 No. 4

Written Answers. - CAP Reform.

Peter Barry

Question:

65 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he has satisfied himself with the pace of implementing the Common Agricultural Policy reform; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Council of Agriculture Ministers reached agreement on the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy at its meeting of 18-21 May 1992 and subsequently adopted the necessary legal provisions at its June meeting. Since then the necessary Commission detailed rules have been adopted. In addition, my Department has been making the necessary preparations to ensure the smooth introduction of the reforms.

As the Deputy will be aware, 1993 is the first of a three-year transition period to the full implementation of the bulk of the reform measures. I am satisfied that all the national measures required are at an advanced stage of preparation and that all aspects of the reformed Common Agricultural Policy will be fully introduced in Ireland as and when required by Community rules.
