Vol. 429 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sugar Quota.

Helen Keogh

Question:

74 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the position regarding the Irish sugar quota in the event of the sale of the Government's stake in Greencore.

Under EC Regulations, a member state must allocate a sugar quota to each sugar-producing undertaking in its territory. In Ireland's case, the total quota of 200,200 tonnes is allocated by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry to Siúicre Éireann cpt. as it is the sole producer of sugar here. The sale of the Government's stake in Greencore will not affect this position.
