Vol. 429 No. 6

Written Answers. - Drogheda (Louth) Treatment Plant.

Michael Bell

Question:

129 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment when the treatment plant for Drogheda will commence in view of the fact that the interception sewer scheme has commenced; if the final design has been approved; if the scheme will include Termonfeckin and Baltray in County Louth and east Meath; the projected cost; the amount of EC funding involved; where the balance of finance, if any, will be secured from; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department is awaiting the submission of contract documents for this scheme by Drogheda Corporation. The feasibility of connecting Mornington, Bettystown and Laytown to the teatment works is being investigated at present. There are no proposals with my Department to extend the scope of the approved scheme to the Baltray or Termonfeckin areas.

This scheme is one of a number of environmental projects for which Cohesion Fund assistance has been applied for. The detailed financial arrangements and timing of the scheme will depend on the outcome of this application.
