Vol. 429 No. 6

Written Answers. - Aquaculture Licence Application.

Enda Kenny

Question:

166 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine if an aquaculture licence application will be approved for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo.

An application by the person in question to cultivate oysters at a site in Clew Bay was cleared by the Department's aquaculture licence vetting committee on 15 February 1993 for advertisement by the applicant under the terms of the Foreshore Act, 1933. The application cannot be further progressed until the proposal has been advertised.

The aquaculture licensing process involves a system of public notice and consultation. Objections and representations lodged with the Department are carefully and rigorously assessed prior to a final decision being taken on the licensing of projects. A decision on the licence application in question will be made on completion of this process.
