Ivan Yates

Question:

169 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Marine if he will give details of the firms which have been retained by State-sponsored bodies in his Departmental area and that of his Minister for State for market research, advertising, public relations and marketing proposes; the projects, if any, which are being carried out by each of these firms; the fees or retainers, if any, which are being paid for each of these projects; the duration of the contract for each project; if all services were secured through tendering; and if he will give details of the tendering procedures.

The question relates to day-to-day decisions taken by State-sponsored bodies and I am therefore not in a position to provide the information requested by the Deputy.

Question:

170 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Marine if he will give details of the firms which have been retained in his Departmental area and that of his Minister of State for market research, advertising, public relations and marketing purposes; the projects, if any, which are being carried out by each of these firms; the fees or retainers, if any, which are being carried out for each of these projects; the duration of the contract for each project; if all such services were secured through tendering; and if he will give details of the tendering procedure used.

The Department of the Marine does not retain any firms for the purposes stated. Under the terms of the State advertising contract with Brindley Advertising Ltd., however, the Department uses the services of that company in respect of its advertising requirements. The contract itself was placed by the Office of Public Works.

In addition, the interim Dun Laoghaire Harbour Board uses the services of Moran & Associates, Consultants who organise press receptions and manage events on behalf of the board. Costs arising since I became Minister for the Marine amount to £1,200. The firm is employed as and when required. Tendering did not apply.
