Vol. 429 No. 6

Written Answers. - Land Commission Land.

Ivan Yates

Question:

219 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if there will be an investigation into the reason a person (details supplied) in County Wexford who is seeking to purchase Land Commission land on the same estate is having to pay many times more per acre than any of his neighbouring allottees; and if the matter will be reinvestigated so that he will be given it on some similar rate of payment to his neighbours.

In a reply to a similar question put down by the Deputy on 19 November 1991, it was indicated that the price at which land is allotted is a matter reserved by law to the Land Commissioners and that I have no function in the matter. The land has been vested in the person named and at this stage the Commissioners have no legal power to alter it. I can confirm however that the purchase price recently offered is correct and in accordance with the Governments' decision granting a 50 per cent discount on the outstanding advance.

The Deputy will appreciate I am sure that it would be inappropriate for me to comment on the purchase prices being offered to the neighbours.
