Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Sheehan — the proposed closure of Dunmanus national school, Golden, County Cork, without consultation with the board of management or the parents of the pupils concerned; the reason the Minister for Education did not give consideration to the amalgamation of this school with Goleen national school which is in the same catchment area; and whether she is now prepared to offer free transport to Goleen national school to the pupils concerned; (2) Deputy Crowley — the proposed plans for the provision of a new primary school at Tullylease, Charleville, County Cork, since the existing conditions are unacceptable to parents, teachers and children; (3) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — the increasingly serious overcrowding problem which exists at the Christian Brothers High School, Clonmel, County Tipperary; (4) Deputy Dukes — the application of the provisions of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 1989, to serving members of the Permanent Defence Force; (5) Deputy Upton — the need for appropriate educational facilities for disruptive students (details supplied) in the Dublin 8 area who do not attend any school despite the fact that they are aged approximately ten years; (6) Deputy Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny)— the discrimination against staff working at St. Patrick's Cheshire Home, Tullow, County Carlow, who are doing similar work to their counterparts in the health board but who are not in receipt of health board pay rates; (7) Deputy Matt Brennan — the fact that the route of the Athlone/Sligo bus is being discontinued in certain areas of County Sligo which will cause great inconvenience to many people in rural Sligo; (8) Deputy Allen — the situation in Cork city where a patient (details supplied) is being forced to wait until 2 June for a cat-scan X-ray even though his consultant requested one for him on 29 March and if the Minister will accept that this is an unacceptable situation; (9) Deputy De Rossa — the failure of the Minister for Social Welfare to produce the promised guidelines for community welfare officers regarding supplementary welfare payment; the resulting confusion regarding entitlements and the consequent hardship for those in need; (10) Deputy Finucane — if, in view of the urgent necessity for a group water scheme at The Hill, Abbey-feale, County Limerick, the Minister for the Environment will indicate when this project will be approved and if he will make a statement on the matter; (11) Deputy McManus — the need for the Minister for Health to speed up the implementation of the Child Care Act to increase the protection available to children who may be at risk, especially in view of the case of the 15 year old girl who died in London, shortly after returning from spending six months in this country; (12) Deputy Rabbitte — the failure to secure suitable premises for the all-Irish second level school for Tallaght, County Dublin, which was sanctioned during the last general election campaign; (13) Deputy Pat Gallagher — the possibility of permitting the supply of multi-channel TV via the MMDS system to Tullamore, County Offaly, in the light of the severe difficulties experienced by customers of the existing cable system; (14) Deputy Flanagan — the proposed extension to the national school at Clonmacnoise, County Offaly, a former centre for educational excellence, renowned throughout Europe and where the national school has now fallen into a state of considerable disrepair; (15) Deputy Jim Higgins — the need for the Minister for Health to make a statement outlining the measures taken by the Western Health Board to ensure the safety and wellbeing of a young girl, who has since died, and who came into the jurisdiction of the health board in August 1992 (details supplied); (16) Deputy Batt O'Keeffe — the escape of 8,000 farm salmon from Salmara, West Cork and the action, if any, he proposes to take to improve security at the farm, in view of danger to wild fish stocks.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: Deputy De Rossa, Deputy Dukes, Deputy Batt O'Keeffe, Deputy Theresa Ahearn.
