Vol. 429 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Transport for Diabetics.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

303 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, he has to facilitate diabetics who have previously had a taxi service provided to ensure they reached hospital on a regular basis for necessary treatment.

I am not aware of any changes in the arrangements made for diabetics who attend hospital for treatment on a regular basis. Where it is deemed necessary for medical reasons, an ambulance, a mini-bus, or in certain circumstances, a taxi is provided to transport the patient to hospital. Patients who make their own travel arrangements may be entitled to financial assistance where grounds of hardship can be established.
