Vol. 429 No. 6

Written Answers. - Provision of Second Level School.

Nora Owen

Question:

334 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the recent announcement by the Dominican Convent, Cabra, Dublin 9 that it will no longer be able to offer places from 1994 and succeeding years to all girls from the national school in Laurel Lodge, Castleknock, Dublin 15 and the most recent results from the 1991 census figures showing an upsurge of population in Diswellstown, she will re-examine the findings of the Bannon report and reconsider the possibility of providing a second level school for Castleknock, Dublin 15.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Dáil Question No. 538 answered on 10 February 1993.

My Department will continue to monitor the demand for post-primary places from pupils in the Castleknock area in the light of the most up to date information available for the area on housing developments, birth statistics, population trends, and the level of places available in neighbouring post-primary schools, including the Dominican Convent, Cabra.
