Vol. 429 No. 6

Written Answers. - Shankill (Dublin) Garda Patrol Car.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

100 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Justice when the special Garda patrol car was removed from the Shankill area of Dublin; the reason for its removal; and the date of replacement.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the present authorised level of Garda transport at Shankill station is four vehicles, that four vehicles are attached to that station at present and that they are in operationally effective order.

The vehicle referred to in the question was temporarily attached to Shankill station in November, 1992, as a replacement for one of the official cars which was out of service. When the official car was returned to service the replacement car continued to be used by the gardai at Shankill station until March of this year, when it was withdrawn by the Garda authorities.
The Garda authorities are satisfied that the present level of transport at Shankill station is adequate, but the position is kept under review in the context of the authorised levels for the Division as a whole.
