Vol. 429 No. 7

Written Answers. - Child Care Policy Unit.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

34 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if he has liaised with the Minister for Health to establish the Child Care Policy Unit in the Department of Health as recommended in the report of the Second Commission on the Status of Women; and if he intends to ensure that a child care co-ordinator is appointed in each health board region.

I have written to the Minister for Health recently seeking his views on those recommendations of the Second Commission on the Status of Women which relate to his area of responsibility. Amongst the recommendations on which I have sought his views are those relating to the establishment of a Child Care Policy Unit in his Department and the appointment of childcare co-ordinators in each health board region. When I have the views of my colleagues and their Departments on the recommendations of the Second Commission that relate to them I intend to draw up an implementation programme based on the Commission's recommendations.
