Vol. 429 No. 7

Written Answers. - Hungarian Visit.

Liz McManus

Question:

52 Ms McManus asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in the course of his recent visit to Budapest, he engaged in any discussions likely to advance cultural and educational links between Ireland and Hungary; and if he will make a statement on the question of a formal cultural agreement between the two countries.

In the course of my discussions with the Hungarian authorities there was an opportunity to review relations in this field and to note the welcome increase in cultural and academic exchanges which has taken place between our two countries in recent years.

While it is not planned at present to enter into a formal cultural agreement with Hungary, I am pleased to inform the Deputy that a programme of cultural and educational exchanges has recently been established which will include visits of academics and creative artists, and will provide summer school scholarships on a reciprocal basis.
