58 Ms. McManus asked the Minister for Finance if he will sanction the appointment of additional staff in the Houses of the Oireachtas in order to bring the publication of bound volumes of the Offical Report of Parliamentary Proceedings up to date, so that the record of Dáil proceedings is properly available to the public.
Within the past year, following a survey by the Management Services Unit of my Department, I sanctioned a substantial increase in the staffing of the Reporting Section of the office of the Houses of the Oireachtas. The staff recruited on foot of that sanction are currently in training and pending their becoming fully operational, it is for the Editor of Debates, in consultation with the management of the Office, to determine the allocation of work between the staff of her section, the priority to be accorded to particular work and to devise and implement such measures as may be required to ensure that optimum value is obtained from the professional and other staff allocated to her.
