Vol. 429 No. 7

Written Answers. - Women on Semi-State Bodies.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

60 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Finance if he will give a list of the semi-State boards under his aegis where the 40 per cent quota of women has been adhered to by the Government since it accepted the recommendations of the first statement of the Commission on the Status of Women in April, 1991; and if he will further list the boards where the quota has fallen below 40 per cent.

In so far as the semi- State bodies under the aegis of my Department are concerned, none has reached the 40 per cent quota of women members of their boards.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, the recent Government decision regarding the representation of women on the boards of semi-State bodies set out certain steps regarding the implementation of the 40 per cent quota and I will of course take all the steps possible to implement this decision.
