Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

180 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence if, in respect of his Department or of his Minister of State, he will give the names of any persons or agents, other than the established Civil Service, appointed by him to any position within the ambit of his Department since 10 February 1993; if he will give their job descriptions, terms of employment and salary scale; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Apart from the appointment of the programme manager in the Departments of Defence and the Marine, no such appointment has been made. The relevant details are contained in the reply to the Deputy's Question No. 182 on today's Order Paper.

No such appointments were made.

182 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine if, in respect of his Department or of his Ministers of State, he will give the names of any persons or agents, other than the established Civil Service, appointed by him to any position within the ambit of his Department since 10 February 1993; if he will give their job descriptions, terms of employment and salary scale; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The appointees hold temporary, unestablished positions within the Civil Service, are subject to the conditions of employment which apply to unestablished civil servants in general and are fully qualified for the positions which they hold.
The programme manager and the special adviser will cease to be employed not later than the date on which I, as Minister for Defence and the Marine and the Minister of State, respectively, cease to hold our current offices.
I can also advise the Deputy that under the marine sub-programme of the EC STRIDE operational programme a manager of the National Marine Data Centre, which is currently being established, has been employed on a temporary contract which expires on 31 December, 1993.
