Vol. 430 No. 2

Written Answers. - Gas Pipeline.

Peter Barry

Question:

227 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if out of the total cost of approximately £287 million for the interconnector gas pipeline between Ireland and Scotland, he will give the percentage of the cost that will go to Irish firms; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The percentage of the projected total cost of the Ireland-UK gas interconnector project which will go to Irish firms and organisations amounts to 18 per cent. The balance of 82 per cent has had to be sourced outside the country because of the nature of the materials and the specialised plant required for the work.

In all, about 20 Irish firms are involved in the project.
