The Stay Safe Programme is currently being implemented in primary schools around the country with the active support of my Department, the Department of Education and the health boards.
I am fully supportive of this important child abuse prevention programme and would like to see it successfully implemented in all areas. The Deputy will be pleased to learn that I have accordingly asked the health boards to continue to make available the services of the social workers specially provided by my Department for the project for the duration of the school year 1993-94 so as to enable the implementation process to be completed.
I might also mention that my Department's Health Promotion Unit is making available a further grant of £35,000 towards the production costs of additional materials needed for the programme.
My colleague, the Minister for Education, is also in full support of the programme and I understand that she has sanctioned the continuation of the secondment of teachers to it for the next school year.
