I propose taking Question Nos. 310, 311, 312, 313, 314, and 315 together.

The enforcing authorities designated under the School Attendance Act, 1926 in the County Borough of Dublin, Dún Laoghaire, Cork and Waterford are the respective school attendance committees, appointed under the Act, situated. Elsewhere the gardaí are charged with this responsibility. The officers referred to by the Deputy were appointed in accordance with the provisions of the Act.

I am not aware of any report that shows that truancy is more prevalent in areas outside the areas designated under the Act.

The Green Paper proposes a review of the working of the School Attendance Act including an examination of the roles and responsibilities of the various agencies involved. A working group has been established in my Department to carry out this review in consultation with the interested parties.
